May 4th- A date for your diary

4th May

International Firefighters Day

St Florian’s Day (St Florian is the patron saint of firefighters)

-Firefighter’s Memorial Day

Firefighters around the country were asked to remember firefighters who had made the ultimate sacrifice, by standing outside their fire stations and holding a minute’s silence at 12 noon on Saturday 4th May 2019.

Up and down the country firefighters stood in silent tribute to fallen colleagues.

On Sunday 3rd May there was a special service in Holy Sepulchre, London, to remember all fallen firefighters and fire and rescue services from around the country were invited to send a standard bearer. After the service there was a march to the Firefighters Memorial outside St Paul’s Cathedral where wreaths were laid by families and by the different fire and rescue services.
